Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha  Parish

Confidential Planning Study

Planning Study Questionnaire

Our parish facilities have served us reasonably well over the years.  However, they do not adequately meet our current and projected needs.  We are considering possible initiatives that we believe will be important in the years ahead.  As we continue to shape our ideas, we want to gather your thoughts, encourage your support, and gauge the level of resources that might be available to meet our needs.

The projects outlined below require some refinement in terms of scope and cost.  They might be implemented at the same time, or phased in over a period of time, depending on resources.  Generally, however, they represent our needs as we now perceive them.  As we continue to shape our ideas we will develop a more refined list of needs and costs.  At the present time, we estimate that the projects outlined below could cost up to $700,000-750,000.

CASE STATEMENT:

Parish Center

A new parish center, connected to the current common space adjacent to the offices, would include the following:

Ø       A community or activities room of approximately 1500 square feet, which would provide the space necessary for a host of functions that presently cannot be accommodated (e.g. large group gatherings, social functions, resource-generating outside rentals). There is not currently an adequate space to gather as a community.  And the basement, which is quite limited in size, is not handicap accessible.

Ø       5-6 classrooms of 100-125 square feet each for religious education and small group meetings.  These spaces would enable us to better meet the current demands of more than 260 students in religious education and meeting space for parish ministries and other volunteer groups.  Occupancy in each current classroom in the parish-owned house is limited by fire regulations to just 9 persons.  This space problem will become even more acute as our community grows in size and activities.

Ø       Kitchen to meet the needs of large group gatherings, social events and rental opportunities that generate additional revenue.

Ø       Work/office space for use by those involved in our various ministries.

Ø       Bathroom facilities.

Furniture

Furniture items such as tables, chairs, desks and other items will be needed for the new space.  We could consider using the chairs from the church for the Activities Room and classrooms, and purchasing new seating for the church; or we could purchase new chairs for the new space.

Renovate House for Use as Rectory

Renovate for use as a rectory the home that is currently used for religious education and for the thrift store.  The house is more appropriate for a rectory than the modular home now being used.  The thrift store would be moved to the modular home, thus providing more space for expanded inventory and increased revenue potential.
